Hi, I'm Åsa Törnquist, a Swedish illustrator with Big Hair Energy 🎀👩🏻🦲 Alopecia took my hair but it didn't take my creativity. My impactful images, animations and patterns can be used for editorial, advertising and brand building.

Coloured lines and smooth curls
The prompt said glow.
I said: just enough.

This is how I figure things out
Before starting the final piece, I sketched out a few different directions.
Hair shapes, face angles, ways to balance the glow.
In this sketch, you’ll notice some confusion around the prompt. This one didn’t include a Christmas tree – but I drew one anyway.
Solo mom life means working in the in-betweens.
A small hiccup is bound to happen.
Sketching helps me see what I want, just as much as what I don’t.

The prompt:
Curly Hair. Glow. Rosy Cheeks.
Here you see the colour sketch that I completed before starting with the final piece.

Drawing the curls
I wasn’t aiming for realism.
The curls became more about shape and rhythm than actual strands.
Illustrated, not replicated.
I liked that approach.
It gave the face space to breathe, and let the hair carry some movement without pulling focus.
Can the cheeks be more rosy? Yes.

I kept the season in the background. It’s there, but only just.

Drawn more like a shape than a texture. Less curl, more rhythm.

The white hair leads, but nothing steals the scene.

A moving silhouette with dancing candles. A festive scene with a bit of class.
